As a painter Melissa chooses to work mostly in oils. She likes how they can be manipulated on the canvas, how they blend, and enjoys seeing how the colors react towards each other. She likes to use bright contrasting colors and tends to have repetitive patterns. In Melissa’s work she often times chooses to paint from photos or natural objects around her. She finds a lot of inspiration in flowers. She likes the bold colors flowers can have, the texture of the centers, and the natural shapes the petals create together. She often times will zoom in on something and blow it’s proportions over sized. So, much that it looks abstract and only she knows what it is.
